- About vegetable tanned leather -
I purchase my leather from a tannery in Tuscany, Italy, who are experts in vegetable tanning since 1946. The tanning process is an artisan tradition that has been in the family, for generations, mixing antique recipes and state-of-the-art technology. The tannery has made huge investments in sustainability, such as waste recycling and water reuse, which makes them work in full respect of man and the environment.
The skins are aniline dyed, which is a transparent dye that penetrates all layers of the skin and leaves the leather with a natural finish that allows the natural grain to shine through.
Vegetable-tanned leather absorbs the traces of our life and reveals the signs of time. The colours of tannins give the leather a warm and brilliant shade that becomes more intense and over time and with daily use. Differences in tone and possible marks on the material make this leather genuine and natural.
Vegetable-tanned leather does not contain any toxic substance harmful to man and is highly tolerable for those who suffer from metal related allergies. New product
When your item is new, there is a risk of pigment rubbing off the leather as with any naturally dyed product. For the first few wears I recommend avoiding wearing dark leather onto light coloured clothing and being careful with wearing dark clothing, for example denim, in combination with light leather.
- Cleaning & Caring -
Exposure to water will create spots. However, this is a natural effect of vegetable tanned leather. In time these spots together will create the vintage look that is so characteristic for vegetable tanned leather.
If your product gets dirty, wipe it with a clean damp cloth. For extra care, and to avoid drying out and cracking of the leather, you can use a leather conditioner. This will give the leather a darker and more intense colour, so always try this on a non visible part of the bag, for example the bottom.
Never let you product dry near to, or on a heater t, but let it dry naturally or gently dry with a clean towel.
Choosing a product made by Anna Treurniet, means choosing a one-of-a-kind object that reflects the owner’s lifestyle.
Leather is a natural product. I use the best Tuscan vegetable-tanned leather, which makes it strong and durable. The colour and grain may vary slightly from hide to hide.I try to provide you with the best and honest product pictures, but due to the many variations in monitors and browsers, colours may appear different on different monitors.
